Yardley
Rejuvenation
This charming Cape Cod had a series of renovations made by the previous owners that were simply odd and clearly an afterthought. Despite the spatial obstacles, there was noticeable potential to transform the house into a forever home for our clients. By introducing a portico and finessing the interior floorplan, it provided the much needed definition and cohesiveness this home deserved.
By learning how our clients use their home, we were able transform that knowledge into functional space. On the exterior, we knew immediately that we needed to establish a sense of arrival by defining the homes entry. The home's facade originally had two entry doors with mixed architectural hierarchy, leading to a lot of confusion. By introducing a portico we were able to articulate the main entry, while seamlessly removing the unnecessary door and a plethora of curb appeal.
On the interior, our first goal was to provide a proper sense of arrival that no longer opened up immediately to the laundry area. By relocating the laundry to a more convenient location near the bedrooms in the house, it made room establish a welcoming foyer. This reconfiguration also allowed for the half-bath to be relocated out of the eat-in kitchen area. A subtle modification to the kitchen layout increased the kitchens efficiency, while the beautiful, airy finishes tie in the aesthetic of the rest of the home.
