Tucked into a quiet neighborhood in Pennington Borough, a modest 1960s developer colonial was reimagined as a contemporary family home, expanding its capacity without sacrificing its sense of place.  The original house was tight and compartmentalized, with little connection to the surrounding yard.

 

On a constrained corner lot, the design carefully extends the existing footprint, using the driveway as the natural threshold for a two-story addition. The new volume accommodates a two-car garage and primary suite above, while creating room for a mudroom, vaulted den, second-floor laundry, and expanded kitchen.

 

Within the original structure, walls were selectively removed to open the interior and weave old and new into a cohesive whole. At the center, a generous kitchen island anchors daily life and informal gatherings, its scale inviting people to linger, connect, and move naturally through the space.  Abundant windows and glass doors draw daylight deep into the interior, while framing views and direct access to the yard. The result is a home shaped as much by how it is lived as by how it is built; warm, connected, and quietly generous.
