Addition

Nestled within the Historic District of Hopewell Borough Historic District, this once boldly purple residence underwent a thoughtful architectural transformation that both elevated its aesthetic presence and redefined its functionality for modern family living. While rich in character, the original home’s modest footprint no longer supported the needs of a growing young family, offering undersized bedrooms, a single bathroom, and a cramped, cave-like laundry space.

A historically sensitive two-story rear addition was carefully integrated into the existing structure, preserving the home’s original charm while dramatically enhancing livability. The addition introduced a new secondary entry from the driveway, a combined mudroom and laundry space, a discreet powder room, and an expanded kitchen pantry designed to improve flow and daily function. Above, the newly created primary suite offers generous proportions, vaulted ceilings, and a luxurious en-suite bath, bringing light, comfort, and retreat to the upper level.

In close collaboration with the builder, the interiors were layered with warmth and authenticity through the homeowners’ curated collection of antiques and salvaged architectural elements. Features such as a stained-glass window, antique doors, and a dusty pink vintage vanity infuse the spaces with individuality and timeless charm. Period-appropriate materials, including beadboard wall paneling and classic checkered flooring, were thoughtfully employed to ensure the addition feels seamlessly woven into the home’s historic fabric.  Through careful craftsmanship and a deep respect for the home’s heritage, the renovation not only honors the past, but positions the residence for another century of meaningful living and memory-making.
